POSITIVE ENERGY FOR WOMEN BY JUDITH ORLOFF, M.D.
Jul 27, Juliana Haught rated it it was ok Neergy I’m not sure I’m even going to finish this book all the way to the end. I really wanted to like it because Judith Orloff is such a well-known name in the world of energy healing, but this book is way more about Orloff than it is a presentation on energy and how to recognize it or work with it. I found myself annoyed with how much Orloff inserts her own gifts and life experiences as an intuitive as anecdotal reasons for and evidence of the effectiveness of her advice while relying on her professi I’m not sure I’m even going to finish this book all the way to the end.
I found myself annoyed with how much Orloff inserts her own gifts and life experiences as an intuitive as anecdotal reasons for and evidence of the effectiveness of her advice while relying on her professional training enregy credentials as a psychotherapist as the reason why we should listen to her and take her seriously.
Pick one or the other, because the professional training isn’t where she got her energy knowledge. The way the book reads, Orloff perhaps unintentionally makes it sound like positivs advice about boundaries and discernment rise directly from her intuitive perceptions rather than her therapist training, and that the advice she imparts is unique, when in fact so much of the useful strategies in the book can be found in many other sources.
Also, there’s juddith bit of a “far out vibe” the fact that she uses the word “vibe” to describe things as a therapist, for example that I can’t relate to. In the many many anecdotes Orloff uses to illustrate some life problem, she falls back on explaining that judirh problems and their solutions come from various kinds of negative or positive “vibes”, and if you really look at it, she can’t explain how that works or fnergy to change it, even though she’s come up with all sorts of descriptors that have helped her to organize and explain her world view.
What she does is she gives you a whole host of strategies to try until something causes a shift back to good or inspiration – basically, hit or miss. Apr 15, Tami rated it it was amazing. Have you ever felt suddenly depressed and overwhelmed after talking to that relative that is constantly complaining? Do you ever eat food that you know is unhealthy because you think it’ll make you feel better?
Positive Energy examines the concept positiv energy. This book draws a direct connection between energy and the way we live. When we eat foods that give us energy, make use of our own daily energy patterns, and seek out positive people in our lives we become naturally more energetic, able to cope with stress, and become more creative.
Conversely, when judirh push ourselves beyond our natural energy limits, take on the emotional baggage of others, and ignore our own needs we automatically become depressed, overwhelmed, and fearful.
Positive Energy details ten different strategies to increase healthy energy and decrease harmful energy. These strategies ppositive from fairly obvious answers such as discovering personal self orooff and adopting a healthy energy creating diet to less obvious solutions such as recognizing that we are unconsciously taking on the emotional baggage of others. I didn’t realize how easily I was taking on the baggage of others without even a conscious thought of what it could be doing to my energy level.
Apr 04, Kim rated it it was ok. Two things that made me rate this book lower than I probably would normally have were: While I usually LOVE audio books they are perfect to work out tothis was not one of my best choices. Difficult to do with an audio book.
She was just a bit too ‘new-agey’ for me. Again, some GREAT advice jufith dealing with your frustration, anger, depression and finding ways to rejuvinate are within the pages of this book, but just a little too much ‘California Dreamin’ inside. Judith Orloff was also the reader of her own book, and she had a voice that I didn’t find overly pleasing to listen to. Sep 13, Monica rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: An awakening force of our hidden inner intuition, this kind of book is needed in today’s rush-through world.
After reading it, I become more conscious of my own precious energy, how to conserve it and expend it, as well as how to avoid other people and situations that are energy draining. This book will be an excellent investment for anyone’s mental health! Ensrgy funny to hate a book about positive energy. However I got the audio book and the sound of the authors voice was so whiney, it was literally draining the positive energy I had. Also this audio book has meditation which is not great for me since I listen to all my audio books in the car.
Also it was ridiculous how many types of energy vampires she listed. Based on her definition everyone is a energy vampire at some point. Mar 14, Pisitive rated it really liked it. Some great advice for us energy empaths!
Jul 03, Diana Shaffner rated it did not like it Shelves: Positive energy, the awareness of, and ability to manage it is enormously important for anyone who wants to become or stay healthy. However, this extremely lengthy book falls short. Some points that could be made in a couple of sentences to offer some value to the reader are drawn out seemingly without end. The author often refers to how subtle energies in everything that surrounds us impact us. This is no posifive true, yet when it comes to a discussion on powitive energies in food she talks about meat without ever acknowledging the energy in such a product from a living being who jdith experiences life at a factory farm possitive the fear and terror of transport and slaughter.
She suggests you hold the piece of meat in your hand and concentrate on its ‘feel’. The fact that the author goes into depth on he subject of a machine’s energy and positkve it can influence you orlovf vice versa but leaves out the energy of living beings who have been through the worst imaginable, is incomplete, heartless, and ignorant at best. This book cannot be recommended. Mar 07, Noura Algwaiz rated it did not like it.
I initially decided to read this book because the Author is a psychiatrist and all her books have very good ratings almost 5 stars by hundreds of reviewers.
However, I was pretty disappointed. There is nothing in this book that a normal well rounded person doesnt already know. AIso, I find that the author refers to her self and her opinions and experiences way too much Jun 16, Michael Graber rated it really liked it. What a great program for owning your own energy. These simple methods and exercises act as a catalyst for positivity. I loved certain parts of this book, underlining and highlighting madly; however others seemed like a rehash of information I could get anywhere eat organic whole food.
On the whole, I did get a lot out of it. I generally don’t like books that are too like a memoir chock full of the author’s anecdotes and personal experiencesbut I had to give Orloff some leeway here since she is a physician and a practitioner.
But the chatty, familiar style positige a little much for me. That’s a personal taste, I loved certain parts of this book, underlining and highlighting madly; however others seemed like a rehash of information I could get anywhere eat organic whole food. That’s a personal taste, other people might enjoy it. I just purchased her most recent book about empathsso I’m continuing on with the author. Poditive 17, Amalie rated it really liked it Shelves: This includes ten sections: Good book but not meant This includes ten sections: Good book ujdith not meant for one sitting.
I will definately revisit it. May 07, Anne Leazar rated it it was amazing Shelves: A highly informative book that helps to relieve fatigue and stress.
