Aug 30, Oriana marked it as to-read. I was talking to some friends last night about just what it is that makes reality TV so frantically appealing. But what is it that makes the ladies so riveted by Slutty Rich Housewives of Kent I was talking to some friends last night about just what it is that makes reality TV so frantically appealing. Why do we care so much about that woman who maybe killed her kid or whether Abercrombie paid that guy from Jersey Shore to stop wearing their clothes or who wore what to some unbelievably inane awards show?

Anyway, apparently this book was kind of a pioneering study of “reception theory,” or what makes people respond to television and other media in the ways they do. Or does anyone have other recommendations for other, more current media theory books? Jul 04, Kristiana rated it liked it.

I read this one for a paper in my media studies class. It’s an international survey of Dallas viewing patterns and what people thought, country to country. Yeah, nobody else is going to find this remotely interesting.
